32 NFIB/Ohio Members to Serve in 131st Ohio General Assembly

Date: November 05, 2014

November 4, 2014 was a great
night politically for small-business owners in Ohio.

Through our thorough and
member-driven process, the NFIB/Ohio SAFE Trust endorsed 80 candidates in the
general election, four statewide candidates in Ohio Governor John Kasich, Ohio
Attorney General Mike DeWine and Ohio Supreme Court Justices Sharon Kennedy and
Judi French, as well as 76 additional candidates for the Ohio House of Representatives
and Senate.

All four statewide candidates
were victorious and 72 of the 76 Ohio Statehouse prevailed in their races.  A record level of support was provided to the
candidates endorsed by the NFIB/Ohio SAFE Trust through dollars raised separately
from any dues paid by members.

Support of our endorsed
candidates included:

  • 79 direct
    contributions to candidates
  • Radio ads runs in
support of 10 candidates reaching over 1.2 million listeners
  • A teletown hall
hosted by NFIB/Ohio with Lt. Governor Mary Taylor
  • Over 113,000 mail
pieces such as our election guides and postcards mailed to members
  • Over 135,000
e-mails and faxes encouraging members to support pro-small-business candidates

“Ohio’s small-business owners
once again mobilized in the 2014 general election.  They have witnessed first-hand Ohio’s
economic comeback these past four years and voted to see it continue. With half
of the state’s private-sector workforce employed by small businesses, it was
critical to elect those candidates who understand the unique challenges
entrepreneurs face,” said Roger R. Geiger, vice president and executive
director for NFIB/Ohio.

“Our members were excited and
energized to see elected 29 fellow NFIB/Ohio members and small-business owners
to the Ohio Legislature. They will join three NFIB/Ohio members in the Ohio
Senate who were not up for re-election. As fellow small-business owners, these
candidates understand the economic realities facing their fellow Ohioans and
the need to continue to move our state down a path toward greater economic
prosperity. Overall 95% of candidates endorsed by the NFIB/Ohio SAFE Trust were
successful in their election bids.

NFIB/Ohio continues to be
committed to working closely with legislative leaders on issues vital to small
business that include holding healthcare costs in check, reforming workers’
compensation, reigning in state spending, and improving Ohio’s economy.”

Additionally, all 12 members
of Ohio’s congressional delegation endorsed at the federal level by the NFIB
SAFE Trust won in their races to be elected.
Two of those 12, Congressmen Bob Latta and Bob Gibbs, are fellow NFIB
members as well.
