6.25% Tax on Services and Labor Defeated
These taxes would have fallen on a wide range of services, such as storage units, security/alarms, landscaping, pest control, laundry/dry cleaning, satellite TV, tattooing, and much more. NFIB successfully opposed this inflationary tax.
Double-Jeopardy Contractor Liability Stopped
This “double-pay” legislation would have forced contractors to pay workers of a subcontractor who failed to pay their employees (even though the subcontractor had already received full payment for the work).
Liens on Business and Personal Assets Prevented
This legislation would have allowed workers with unpaid wage claims to put liens on employers’ businesses and personal assets. It was stopped by staunch opposition from NFIB and a coalition of business groups.
