NFIB Asks Missouri Court to Protect Small Businesses
WASHINGTON, D.C., June 25, 2014 — Brad Jones, state director of the National Federation of Independent Business, released the following statement in response to NFIB’s amicus brief filing in the workers compensation case Smith v. Capital Region Health Center. In this case the Missouri Supreme Court will have to decide whether an employee must definitively prove that a condition developed as a result of work, or whether it’s enough for the employee to show a probability.
“The cost of workers’ compensation insurance remains one of the top concerns of small business owners. In fact, for NFIB members, workers’ compensation compliance is one of their biggest expenses and is ranked consistently as a top priority.
As small business owners continue to struggle in this fragile economy, we have to strike a balance that protects workers who have legitimate claims but which also doesn’t force small businesses to finance the inefficiencies in the system. We urge the Supreme Court to consider the small business perspective on this important issue.”
The NFIB Small Business Legal Center  is a 501(c)(3) organization created to protect the rights of America’s small business owners by providing advisory material on legal issues and by ensuring that the voice of small business is heard in the nation’s courts. The National Federation of Independent Business is the nation’s leading small business association, with offices in Washington, D.C. and all 50 state capitals.
