NFIB Statement on DOL’s Proposed Independent Contractor Rule

Date: September 22, 2020

Washington, D.C. (Sept. 22, 2020) – The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), the nation’s leading small business association, issued the following statement on behalf of Karen Harned, Executive Director of NFIB’s Small Business Legal Center, following the U.S. Department of Labor’s proposed rule on independent contractors:

“Small business owners have long struggled with understanding and complying with complicated independent contractor rules. NFIB has advocated for a simple, straightforward test for determining who is and is not an independent contractor. During these unprecedented times, it is important for small businesses to have simple rules from government agencies that will enable businesses to stay open. We are glad to see the Department of Labor take on this issue and look forward to commenting on the final rule.”
