Local Small Businessman Tapped by Governor for Important Committee

Date: June 11, 2013

Topeka (June 10, 2013) – H. Wayne Roberts, Vice President of the Pioneer Balloon Company in Wichita and a member of the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), was appointed by Governor Brownback recently to serve on the state Workers Compensation and Employment Security Boards Nominating Committee.

“Wayne is part of one of the most successful manufacturing businesses in the state and he’s been a highly active, highly effective member of the NFIB Kansas Leadership Council,” said NFIB State Director Dan Murray.  “He brings decades of small business experience to the post and he’ll bring that perspective to this assignment.”

The Workers Compensation and Employment Security Boards Nominating Committee reviews candidates for administrative law judge and makes recommendations to the Governor for appointment.  Administrative law judges worker’s comp and unemployment insurance benefit claim disputes between the Kansas Department of Labor and the persons and businesses they affect.

“It’s a corner of the law that doesn’t get much attention but which has a big impact on the economy,” said Murray.  “It’s especially important for small businesses because they are very frequently involved in cases with powerful regulatory agencies.”

Pioneer Balloon Company is the country’s largest maker of latex and microfoil balloons.  Roberts was appointed by Governor Brownback to serve a four-year term.
