Virginia Delegates Receive Prestigious Small Business Award

Date: September 16, 2021

NFIB, Virginia’s leading small business advocacy organization, presented its coveted Guardian of Small Business Award recently to four Virginia Delegates

NFIB, Virginia’s leading small business advocacy organization, presented its coveted Guardian of Small Business Award recently to four Virginia Delegates: Rob Bloxom, Tony Wilt, Glenn Davis and Roxann Robinson. All four delegates are proven and consistent champions of small business owners here in Virginia.

NFIB’s State Director in Virginia, Nicole Riley, presented the awards at NFIB member businesses.

Delegate Tony Wilt visited NFIB member Marcie Smith at Happy Hounds Daycare in Harrisonburg. Delegate Wilt is also a small business owner and NFIB member who knows the challenges that our small business owners face – especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Wilt brings a critical small business perspective to a critical committee here in Virginia: the Labor and Commerce Committee. That is where many of the labor mandates that have been imposed on small business owners generate. Delegate Wilt received the Guardian of Small Business award because he consistently speaks up and defends small businesses.

Delegate Glenn Davis visited NFIB member Tim Brooks at his small business, United Roofing Corp. in Virginia Beach. Delegate Davis is a member of the House Appropriations Committee, which recommends the state’s budget. One question that Davis regularly asks is how Virginia’s budget reflects and benefits small business owners. Delegate Davis is also quick to stand up for small business owners not only in committee hearings, but on the House floor.

Delegate Rob Bloxom visited NFIB member Vince Taylor at Sandpiper Marine in Accomac. Delegate Bloxom is also a small business owner and member of NFIB. He is a critical member of the general assembly, along with Delegate Davis, brings his perspective of small business to the Appropriations Committee. By presenting Bloxom with the Guardian Award, small business owners here in Virginia acknowledge all the hard work Bloxom, Davis, and Wilt are doing to ensure that your voices are heard in Richmond.

Delegate Roxann Robinson visited NFIB member Bruce Sadler at Austin Brockenbrough & Associates in Richmond. Delegate Robinson knows what it takes to survive the ever evolving and volatile entrepreneur climate here in Virginia: she is a former small business owner herself. Robinson has consistently supported our small business community and has a cumulative 100% small business voting record with NFIB.

The Guardian of Small Business award is the most prestigious honor that NFIB bestows on legislators in recognition of their efforts to support small business. The NFIB Virginia Leadership Council, an advisory board comprised of NFIB members, voted to present the award to the legislator for his outstanding leadership on small business issues.

“I am proud to present our four Virginia delegates, all small business champions, with this prestigious small business award,” said NFIB’s State Director in Virginia, Nicole Riley. “Not only have they demonstrated an exceptional voting record with NFIB, but the four outlined delegates have proven their leadership on small business issues. Our small business owners appreciate their promise to keep taxes low and promote a stable and economically safe environment for our job creators here in Virginia.”
