NFIB Cheers Bill to Help Small Businesses By Ending Patchwork of Local Regulations

Date: May 26, 2021

NFIB State Director Annie Spilman released the following statement today following the passage of Senate Bill 14 by Sen. Brandon Creighton and Rep. Phil King. The bill would help small businesses by stopping local governments from imposing their own employment rules and regulations:

“Small business owners don’t have the time or the resources to navigate a confusing and contradictory patchwork of local ordinances that go beyond what state and federal law requires. Small businesses that operate in multiple jurisdictions need a consistent and uniform regulatory climate to stabilize, rebuild and grow.

“The House and Senate versions of the bill still need to be agreed upon in conference committee, but on behalf of our members, I want to thank Senator Creighton, Representative King and legislative leaders for shepherding this important bill through the Texas Legislature.”
