Property Tax Bill a Big Relief for Small Business

Date: June 05, 2019

Annie Spilman, NFIB’s state director for Texas, says the state’s small business community is grateful to Governor Abbott and House and Senate leadership for reaching an agreement on property tax reform.

“House Bill 3 is a big deal for small business,” Spilman says. “Property tax rates are a perennial problem that’s gotten worse and worse over the years.

“We’re at a point now where property taxes in Texas are rising faster than people’s incomes,” Spilman says. “That affects everybody, but it can be devastating for small businesses.

“Small business is the engine that drives the state’s economy,” Spilman says. “We need meaningful reforms that ease the property tax burden on Texans and makes it easier for small businesses to expand and create jobs.

“On behalf of our small business members, I want to thank Governor Abbott, Speaker Bonnen, and Lieutenant Governor Patrick for coming together and agreeing to this transformative plan.”
