Learn About State's New Equal Pay Opportunity Act

Date: December 03, 2018

Department of Labor & Industries hosting four webinars from December 12 to January 16

An update to the state’s Equal Pay Act of 1943 went into effect June 7 of this year. The Equal Pay Opportunity Act (EPOA), according to the Dept. of Labor & Industries, “makes it unlawful for employers to:

  • Provide unequal compensation based on gender.
  • Limit or deny career advancement opportunities based on gender.
  • Prohibit wage discussions.
  • Retaliate or discriminate against employees for exercising protected rights under the law.”

In order to make employers fully aware of the EPOA, the department is holding four webinars:

  • December 12, 9:30 a.m.
  • December 19, 3:30 p.m.
  • January 9, 9:30 a.m.
  • January 16, 5:30 p.m.

NFIB encourages its members to take the time to view one of the webinars, which last for 30 minutes with another 30 minutes for questions and answers. In L&I’s webinar, you’ll learn about the differences between state and federal equal pay laws, protections under the law, and the complaint and investigation process.
