Dallas Job Creator: For the Sake of Texas Economy, We Need Consistent Employment Law

Date: May 01, 2023

“Texas is a great place to work and we want to keep it that way.”

Without the Texas Regulatory Consistency Act, small business owners across the state would be left to navigate a patchwork of regulations from city to city – on top of crushing inflation and a worker shortage with no end in sight.

In an interview with CBS 11’s Jack Fink, NFIB member and small business owner Greg Brown of W.W. Cannon, Inc. underscored why local job creators need greater certainty in the regulatory landscape. Brown, who employs Texans in Dallas, Houston, Austin, and San Antonio said:

“[Employment law] should be consistent across the state. […] If they didn’t pass this law and municipalities begin to regulate my business, then in the state of Texas, I’m looking at over 1,400 municipalities that could possibly tell me I couldn’t do this or that.”

These are uncertain economic times – and small business owners need regulatory certainty now. We need your help to tell the small business story. If you’d like to share your story on why the Texas Legislature needs to pass the Texas Regulatory Consistency Act, please contact Texas State Director Annie Spilman ([email protected]).
