PA General Assembly and Gov. Wolf Attempt to Make Deal on Minimum Wage and Overtime

Date: November 20, 2019

Increase in Minimum Wage Tied to Elimination of Overtime Regulation

The Pennsylvania legislature and Gov. Tom Wolf are currently attempting to reach an agreement involving an increase in the minimum wage and elimination of an overtime regulation. The proposal to bring the minimum wage to $9.50 by January 2022 will occur in four separate steps and is tied to the elimination of the regulatory proposal to increase the overtime threshold in Pennsylvania.

NFIB stands strongly opposed to an increase in the minimum wage because of the impact on small businesses.  NFIB believes that an employee should be paid based on the value of what they bring to the job, determined by the marketplace, and often linked to regional variables. NFIB is also strongly opposed to Gov. Wolf’s efforts to push through a significant increase in the overtime threshold by regulatory fiat.

NFIB has been working with legislators and other associations in Harrisburg to prevent an increase in the minimum wage and to make sure that the voice of small business is heard.
