Date: February 03, 2020

Burdensome regulations remain a huge hurdle for Small Business in Oklahoma

NFIB reacted to Gov. Kevin Stitt’s State of the State speech today by applauding his plans to address key small business priorities in 2020.  The Governor mentioned a major concern for Oklahoma small business owners: burdensome regulations. NFIB applauds the Governor for his efforts to address Oklahoma’s numerous and unreasonable regulations.

Jerrod Shouse, NFIB’s state director in Oklahoma, thanked the Governor for his continued investment in small business.

“Oklahoma’s economy is in a great place today thanks to thousands of job creating small business owners who work hard every single day. However, one of the biggest hurdles they face is time wasted figuring out how to comply with burdensome and unnecessary government regulations. NFIB applauds the governor for his efforts to remove some of that red tape for small business. He understands that getting rid of time consuming and repetitive regulations will directly result in more jobs and a stronger economy here in Oklahoma,” said Shouse.

According to a recent survey of NFIB members, unreasonable government regulations continues to be one of the top concerns for small business owners. Another recent survey found that 72% of small business owners listed government regulations as a serious problem with another 45% calling it very serious. Of those regulations, 25% of small business owners said extra paperwork was their biggest compliance problem with 22% saying it was the actual cost of compliance. Wasting entrepreneurs’ time is a significant growth impediment and NFIB thanks the governor for his pledge to reduce red tape in Oklahoma by 25% in the next 3 years.
