NFIB in New York Responds To Amazon HQ2 Co-Locating in Queens

Date: November 14, 2018

Small biz hurt when state cuts 1.7 billion check to attract Amazon

ALBANY, Nov. 13, 2018 — The following statement reacting to news that Amazon will locate part of its second headquarters in Queens can be attributed to Greg Biryla, state director of NFIB in Pennsylvania:

“While the partial location of Amazon’s HQ2 project in Queens is being celebrated as a victory for New York’s economy and validation of the State’s business environment, the state’s hundreds of thousands of small business owners and real job creators are again left out in the cold.

“New York’s small, independent businesses employ more than half of the State’s private sector workforce, pay some of the highest property and income taxes in the nation, and are in desperate need of real relief from a stifling regulatory climate.

“Rather than cut a $1.7 billion check to one of the wealthiest corporations in the world, New York State’s economy, taxpayers and communities would be far better served by seeing business, property and income tax reductions implemented across the board.”

NFIB is a small business association representing over 10 thousand small and independent businesses in New York State.
