Bills would bar questions in hiring about salary or credit history
CONCORD, June 7, 2019 — Today NFIB in New Hampshire joined seven other business groups in asking Governor Chris Sununu in a letter to veto two bills. They are HB 211 which will prohibit employers from asking prospective employees questions relating to salary history. The other, HB 293 prohibits most employers from being able to consider an applicant’s credit history as a part of the hiring decision-making process.
Bruce Berke, state director of NFIB, signed the letter which explains that as representatives of businesses from across the state and from every sector of the economy, the groups believe employers are in the best position to make decisions regarding the hiring process for their businesses. They consider the two bills unnecessary and inappropriate efforts to insert the state into private sector hiring practices.
The letter is signed by NFIB, New Hampshire’s Business and Industry Association, New Hampshire Automobile Dealers Association, The Greater Nashua Chamber of Commerce, New Hampshire Restaurant and Lodging Association, New Hampshire Motor Transport Association, Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce, and Souhegan Chamber of Commerce.
