NFIB Minnesota Small Business Day 2024: Main Street Speaks Out

Date: February 28, 2024

Small business owners met virtually to discuss issues that impact Main Street.

On February 28, small business owners from across our state met virtually for Small Business Day 2024! It was a terrific event with dozens of NFIB members engaging with policymakers on issues that matter to Main Street.

SBD 2024 featured updates on key state and federal priorities for NFIB. We started off with an overview of important legislation moving in the Minnesota Legislature from NFIB Minnesota state director John Reynolds, then moved onto a federal update from U.S. Representative Tom Emmer’s office.

Rep. Emmer serves on the U.S. House Financial Services Committee and his legislative director, Lizzy Fallon, briefed us on transportation, agriculture, and other small business priorities for Rep. Emmer. Ms. Fallon noted that Rep. Emmer and the committee continue working on rolling back the burdensome FinCEN Beneficial Ownership mandate. Rep. Emmer also continues to support the Main Street Tax Certainty Act.

SBD 2024 also featured a small business legislator panel with two strong allies of the Main Street Agenda. Sen. Jordan Rasmusson (Fergus Falls) and Rep. Andrew Myers (Tonka Bay) joined us to talk mandates, taxes, regulations, and more.

A first-term member of the Minnesota Senate, Sen. Rasmusson grew up in a small business family and now runs an independent business consulting firm. Having previously served in the Minnesota House from 2021 to 2022, Rasmusson has proven a capable and loyal ally to small business owners in our state.

Rep. Myers is a first-term lawmaker representing communities around the western half of Lake Minnetonka. An attorney and small business owner, Myers has quickly established a reputation for seeking policy solutions that protect the interests of Main Street.

They also shared their experiences as small business owner-legislators and encouraged more small business owners to get involved at the local and state level.

Fun fact: the Minnesota Legisature has 201 members and one in ten is an NFIB member.

NFIB events are a great way to engage with important policymakers and move the needle for small business owners in this state. We hope to see you at the next one!
