BALTIMORE-AREA SMALL BUSINESSES UNITE TO SUPPORT ELLICOTT CITY

Date: August 08, 2016 Last Edit: August 09, 2016

Maryland small businesses are collaborating to raise funds for those affected by the recent Ellicott City flood. Captain James Landing Crab House in Baltimore will be hosting a crab feast fundraiser on Sunday evening with some help from their small business friends.

NFIB member business, Party Plus Tents and Events will be providing a tent, tables, and chairs for the event. “To create more space
I immediately thought of Leroy and Lauri Dixon due to their amazing service they have
offered us and our clients,” said Marina Hatzidakis, who handles events and marketing for Captain James Landing.  “Leroy decided this was a great
idea and was all in for helping us with a tent, chairs, and tables and Lauri,
has also been great with social media and spreading the word.  We are very
appreciative of this!”

Work Printing and Graphics printed the flyers that were designed by Heather Guy, a resident of Ellicott City, and friends are helping spread the word via social media.

While this is a team effort, Marina originally came up with the idea because she said that the owners of the restaurant and their staff are all about giving, supporting their community, and giving the best of service to the citizens of Maryland. “Marylanders love Crabs and I thought it would be a great idea to host a crab feast to support Ellicott City,” she said.

When she brought the idea to her cousin, Billy Tserkis, who is the owner of the restaurant, she said he immediately approved and began brain-storming ways to make the event a success. She then contacted Howard Country Executive,  Allan Kittleman, who she said quickly responded to her questions.

Like many Marylanders,  Ellicott City holds a special place in Marina’s heart. “I would go with my sisters for lunch, shopping, decor, and coffee,” she said. “Our favorite shopping place was Sweet Elizabeth Jane and Bean Hollow coffee shop. This town is a historic place that has beautiful charm. The best part about living in Ellicott City is that everyone helps each other and people are very caring in this community.”

Funds raised at the event will be donated to the Ellicott City Partnership and will be used to assist merchants and residents with flood recovery.
