Maryland’s Minimum Wage to Increase on January 1

Date: December 15, 2021

Large and small businesses will face increases

Beginning January 1, 2022, Maryland’s minimum wage rates will increase to the following:

  • $12.50 – Employers with 15 or more employees
  • $12.20 – Employers with 14 or fewer employees

As a reminder, Montgomery County goes by different rates for different sized employers. The next increase in Montgomery County is not scheduled to take effect until July 1, 2022.

NFIB anticipates legislation speeding up the state’s phase-in to a $15 minimum wage to be introduced during the upcoming legislative session beginning January 12, 2022. Members will be alerted when details of the proposal are announced.

If you have any questions about the state’s minimum wage, please contact your Grassroots Manager in Maryland at [email protected].
