LOOKING BACK
Legislation to make employers responsible for workplace
bullying (LD 188) will be debated in the legislature later this spring after a
majority of the Labor, Commerce, Research and Economic Development committee
last week voted for further study of the issue.
Republicans on the committee voted against the bill.

The Taxation committee is begins reviewing tax provisions of
the proposed State Budget. There is the

Some members have talked about coming up with their own tax
plan; however, the April 1 deadline for Taxation to report back to the
Appropriations committee gives little time crafting entirely new tax reform
plans. Governor LePage said publicly
last week his tax plan may be defeated in the legislature but that he intends
to spend fight for significant income tax relief during his second term in
office and warned that he will campaign against legislators who oppose him.
NFIB will testify Monday against legislation that would make
employers with 1 or 2 workers provide a 30-minute rest break if the workers are
on the job continuously for 6 ½ hours (LD 486).

NFIB will also testify Monday against legislation that would
require employers to pay certain terminated employees their accrued by unused
sick leave (LD 445), which would create a backdoor paid sick leave law.

NFIB will submit testimony Tuesday in support of legislation
that limits liability for defendants who are less than 50% at fault to the
percentage of fault of the defendant (LD 434).
