Every summer we visit my husband’s family in Amarillo. We drive eight hours from Austin, and we have a lot of family there, so when we visit we stay awhile to enjoy the town, friends, and family. During my recent stay I was pleasantly surprised by all the Amarillo businesses that are also NFIB members. On just a one-day outing, five of the five businesses I visited were all NFIB members. It made my heart happy.

This is what my day in Amarillo looked like:
10 a.m. – I dropped off some cleaning at Village Cleaners. There in the window were three NFIB plaques. Two plaques were 50-year member plaques. Cory Wilson took over the business in 2013 and recently joined NFIB. The previous owners had been members for over 50 years. Thanks for carrying on the tradition, Cory!

12 p.m. – It’s lunch time, and one of my favorite places to eat in Amarillo is Jorge’s Taco Garcia’s. Much to my delight, they are a 10-year NFIB member. George Veloz joined NFIB in 2006, and we appreciate him as a loyal member.
1:30 p.m. – It’s time for some shopping. I visit Raffkind’s, where I buy two pairs of shoes and some silly socks. George Raffkind joined NFIB in 2003, and every time I see him, I remind him that I work at NFIB.

3:00 p.m. – I’m feeling sluggish and unhealthy so I hit up this new juice place my sister-in-law told me about. It’s called Jiggle Berry Juice Bar and guess what?? Yep, NFIB members. We love brand new NFIB members. Ashish Patel joined NFIB in 2014. The drink was delicious!
6:30 p.m. – It’s now dinner time and my husband picks one of his favorite restaurants he grew up going to. It’s called Goldenlight Café and the burgers are to die for, as is everything else on the menu. Of course they are also NFIB Members! Angela Corpening joined in 2010. The GoldenLight Cafe is the oldest restaurant in Amarillo and perhaps the oldest restaurant continuously operating in the same location anywhere on Old Route 66.
10:00 p.m. – Time for bed and sweet dreams of all the wonderful Amarillo NFIB members I got to visit in just one day. I will make sure to profile more fabulous Amarillo small businesses when I visit in November for Thanksgiving. Until then, enjoy the rest of your summer and support your favorite small businesses in your hometown.
