SENATE DEFEATS IRRESPONSIBLE BILL AIMED AT HURTING SMALL BUSINESS
CONCORD (March 12, 2015) Today the National Federation of
Independent Business (NFIB) is applauding the hard work of the New Hampshire
Senate as they stood strong and resoundingly defeated an attempt to increase
the minimum wage in New Hampshire.
“Increasing the minimum wage would have negatively
impacted New Hampshire’s employers as well as those seeking employment and we
applaud the Senate for understanding that reality.” Said NFIB New
Hampshire State Director Bruce Berke, “Increasing the cost of doing
business by bumping up the minimum wage would have deterred small businesses
from bringing on new employees. Thanks to the Senate, small employers now have peace of mind that they can move
forward with new hires without the additional burden of an increase.”
SB261 would have increased the minimum wage over the next
3 years however it was defeated 14-10 today on the Senate floor. Leaving small
business owners across the state breathing a sigh of relief.
“This has been one of the longest economic downturns
in our history. It is time for lawmakers to heed the example set by the New
Hampshire Senate today and get out of the way of small business owners.
Reducing regulations and taxes will allow employers greater ability to hire new
people and invest in business expansion.” Concluded Berke.
