State Director Jerrod Shouse is urging NFIB members to thank Sen. Dan Newberry (Tulsa), who chairs the Senate Business, Commerce, and Tourism Committee, and Rep. Elise Hall (Oklahoma City), who chairs the House version of the committee, for their successful efforts to stop legislation that would have had a tremendous impact on the state’s small businesses.
The legislation included bills to raise the state minimum wage and require employers to offer paid leave and blocked them from conducting credit checks on job applicants.
“There was an unprecedented number of bills this session that would have imposed costly and burdensome rules and regulations on small businesses,” Shouse said. “Senator Newberry and Representative Hall were instrumental in stopping these bills early in the process. On behalf of our members, I want to thank them for continuing to support Oklahoma’s job creators and do everything they can to help businesses grow and create jobs.”
