Main Street Urges Kansas Legislature to Advance Flat Tax Reform

Date: March 29, 2023

Replacing three-tier income tax structure with single, flat tax would provide meaningful relief for local job creators

TOPEKA (March 29, 2023) – Small business owners are eager for the Kansas Legislature to pass SB 169, a tax reform package that would eliminate the three-tiered income tax structure and replace it with a single, flat tax rate.

Following the House of Representatives’ consideration of the tax reform package, NFIB State Director Dan Murray issued a statement urging the Legislature to swiftly send tax reform to the Governor’s desk:

“Overhauling the tax code with a single, flat tax would put Kansas’s economic recovery on stronger footing, while providing meaningful relief for small business owners. With skyrocketing inflation, an unprecedented worker shortage, and supply chain disruptions continuing to pose significant challenges to local job creators, now is the time for the Legislature to deliver meaningful tax relief. We’ll continue working with lawmakers to make it easier to do business here in the Sunflower State.”
