NFIB Illinois In The News

Date: March 15, 2023

NFIB also conducted its first, highly attended webinar for members on the new paid leave law. Watch the recording below.

State Director Chris Davis and NFIB members made the Voice of Small Business heard in the news media over the past weeks about Illinois’ new paid leave law. NFIB was the only statewide business association that opposed this legislation and was disappointed in its passage. This week, Gov. Pritzker signed the ill-advised bill into law.

State Director Davis was quoted on NBC 5 Chicago concerning the paid leave mandate bill then on the governor’s desk. Immediately following Gov. Pritzker’s signing of the paid leave bill this week, Davis was interviewed on Fox 18 News. Davis also was interviewed about the bill’s enactment by AP News for an article that was heavily syndicated, as well as by the Washington Times HeraldFOX Illinois NewsWTTW NewsCourthouse News, and Advantage News, among others. NBC21 WFMJ quoted NFIB members Sandy and Dave Schoenborn, owners of Lincoln Theatre, reacting to the law in its coverage.

After the General Assembly passed the paid leave bill – now law and going into effect next Jan. 1 – NFIB Illinois announced that it would host a series of informational webinars as a service to its members that will assist members with compliance with this new requirement. The first event took place on March 2. State Director Chris Davis lead an overview of the new law, with expert input from employment attorneys Stephanie Mills-Gallan and Meg Karnig of the law firm Littler Mendelson.
