NFIB’s South Carolina state director, Ben Homeyer, says small business owners will be keeping a watchful eye on the South Carolina Legislature when it gavels into session on Tuesday, Jan. 8.
“There are a lot of issues on this year’s agenda that could have a big impact on small business owners and their employees,” Homeyer said. Those issues include tax reform, pension reform, and workforce development. Homeyer said NFIB will also be monitoring proposed education reform and efforts to raise in the state minimum wage.
State-specific data is unavailable, but NFIB’s most recent Small Business Economic Trends survey shows that small business optimism remained historically high. Over the past year, small business owners have demonstrated their optimism by increasing pay, creating jobs, and investing in their businesses, Homeyer said.
“Small business is coming off a strong 2018, and we’ll continue to work with the Legislature to make it possible for small businesses to grow and create jobs in the new year,” Homeyer said.
