Good Bills Progress for Small Business in Week 2

Date: January 18, 2018

The 2018 Florida Legislature is nearing completion of its second week of work. Several of NFIB/Florida’s priorities have been heard in committees and are nearing a full floor vote.

Direct Primary Care looks to be getting a green light for passage as Senate President Joe Negron spoke favorably about the bill in his opening ceremony remarks in front of the full Senate. The Senate has been the bottleneck for this bill in previous years.

A new priority for NFIB/Florida would help to curb a growing area of business fraud where criminals are filing paperwork with the Division of Corporations to change the ownership structure for existing businesses and then taking out lines of credit against those businesses. Senate Bill 610 and House Bill 661 were heard this week in committee and would require the Division of Corporations to notify business owners immediately if changes are made to their Articles of Incorporation. We will be aggressively working to pass this bill to protect businesses from the new type of fraud.
