FL House Passes COVID-19 Liability Bill

Date: March 05, 2021

The Florida House today voted 83-31 in favor of HB7, legislation that would protect employers from frivolous COVID-19 lawsuits. The Senate version of the bill, SB72, passed the Senate Commerce and Tourism Committee on Tuesday 7-4.

“This is the shot in the arm that small business owners need,” Herrle said. “Just as the vaccine protects people from the coronavirus, HB7 would protect employers who follow the governor’s COVID-19 guidelines from meritless lawsuits that could put them out of business.”

“This legislation wouldn’t rob anyone of the right to bring a lawsuit against bad actors who ignore basic health protocols, but it would safeguard small businesses that do follow the rules to protect their customers and employees,” Herrle said.
