ST. PAUL, MN., Jan. 30, 2019—The political action arm of Minnesota’s most influential small-business association today endorsed state Rep. Jason Rarick in the special election race in Senate District 11, which will be held on February 5.

“Jason Rarick is not only a strong supporter of small business but also a small-business owner himself, and he is an NFIB member,” said Mike Hickey, NFIB’s Minnesota state director. Rarick owns Rarick Electric in Brook Park.

Speaking for the NFIB Minnesota PAC, which made the endorsement, Hickey said, “Representative Rarick has cast many critical votes for small business and has truly shown his level of appreciation for the contributions that our members make to Minnesota’s economy. He understands that small business is the lifeblood of Minnesota’s economy and has consistently supported the men and women of the small-business community.”

Hickey highlighted some of the bills Representative Rarick voted for that were beneficial for the small-business community in the 2017-18 legislative session. They included:

  • a significant, small-business property tax reduction, signed into law, which reduced taxes for the smallest businesses by 20 percent to 30 percent. An average business received a $700 to $900 reduction in taxes payable in 2018.
  • a significant $1 million increase in the estate tax exemption, also signed into law, which raised it from $2 million to $3 million per person.
  • a desperately needed 25 percent reduction in health insurance premiums in 2017 for those in the individual market, signed into law. The measure also made other critical insurance reforms to make our market more competitive.
  • support for critical legislation that preempts local units of government from enacting minimum wages higher than the state’s. The legislation would have also stopped the imposition of other new mandates on local businesses.

“He has been a true ally for the small-business community,” said Hickey, “and we are urging business owners and constituents in District 11 to vote for him on February 5 in the special senate election.”

The endorsement of Rarick by the NFIB Minnesota PAC is based on positions taken on key small-business issues, including health care, taxes, labor, and regulatory issues.
