Runoffs Coming in U.S. House, LA Supreme Court races

Republicans Luke Letlow and Lance Harris will square off on Dec. 5 after no candidate received a majority of the primary vote in the 5th Congressional District. Letlow received 33.1% of the vote, while Harris earned 16.6%. In all, nine candidates were in the running to replace Rep. Ralph Abraham, who chose not to seek another term.

Rep. Steve Scalise, Rep. Cedric Richmond, Rep. Clay Higgins, Rep. Mike Johnson, and Rep. Garret Graves were reelected in Louisiana’s five other House races.

Sen. Bill Cassidy was re-elected to the U.S. Senate, earning 59.3% of the vote.

State Supreme Court

Orleans Parish Civil District Judge Piper Griffin and 4th Circuit Court of Appeal Judge Terri Love will compete in a runoff on Dec. 5 to fill the 7th Supreme Court District seat Chief Justice Bernette Johnson is vacating after 26 years. Griffin earned 44% of the vote to Love’s 32%. Appeals Court Judge Sandra Cabrina Jenkins finished third with 25%. 

Jay McCallum beat Shannon Gremillion to replace Justice Marcus Clark, who retired from the 4th District Supreme Court seat.
