With 98% percent of the vote tallied on Wednesday, the Associated Press has declared Majority Leader Mitch McConnell the winner in the race for U.S. Senate. McConnell had 58.2 percent of the vote to Democratic challenger Amy McGrath’s 37.8%. Libertarian candidate Brad Barron had 4%.
The AP also predicted that all six of Kentucky’s U.S. representatives would win reelection.
At the state level, Republicans strengthened their position in the General Assembly, picking up two seats in the Senate and 13 in the House. When lawmakers return to Frankfort in 2021, the party will control 30 of the 38 seats in the Senate and 75 of the 100 seats in the House.
“This is unprecedented,” NFIB State Director Tom Underwood said. “We still have a House and Senate that understands the challenges facing Kentucky’s small businesses, and we look forward to working with leaders in both chambers on measures that enable small businesses to grow and create jobs.”
