SMALL BUSINESS REACTION TO GOVERNOR HOGAN’S STATE OF THE STATE

ANNAPOLIS (February 3, 2016): In
response to Governor Hogan’s State of the State remarks, the following
statement may be attributed to Mike O’Halloran, Maryland state director of the
National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB):

In Governor Hogan’s first year in
office, he was able to deliver on campaign promises made to the small business
community. Eliminating the rain tax engendered tremendous good will and sent a
clear sign to our members that the concerns of those that employ a majority of
workers in our state would no longer fall on deaf ears. Our hope is that other
lawmakers in Annapolis will lead by the Governor’s example and work together to
improve our state’s economy and empower the small business sector.

Small business owners are vital members
of their communities and many of the issues that were referenced today are
close to their hearts. Governor Hogan laid the frame work in the state of the
state to improve communities across Maryland, reduce the tax burden on the
middle class and give everyone the opportunity to prosper. The onus is now on
legislators to meet in the middle and create an environment that is conducive
to compromise and always puts the best interest of our state over partisan
politics.
