November is Hire-A-Veteran Month

Date: November 15, 2017

Did you know November is Hire-A-Veteran Month? The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services wants to help.

Ohio small businesses have tons of zero-cost resources that the state provides to ease the process of hiring veterans. Whether or not you’re considering hiring a veteran, you should know that they possess many translatable skills that could strengthen your small business. Military training and experience instill adaptability, discipline, a strong work ethic, and leadership and problem-solving skills, to name a few. Small businesses that hire veterans might also be eligible for a tax credit. Consult an accountant to determine if you qualify.

Ohio’s Veterans Business Support Center offers customized assistance to employers, as well as “online, over-the-phone or face-to-face help finding skilled veteran candidates for jobs,” according to the Columbus Dispatch. If you’re interested, visit OhioMeansVeteranJobs.com, or OhioMeansJobs.com and find the Veteran Business Support Center icon.  You can also call (888) 385-2538 or email [email protected] for help.
