NFIB's response to Gov. Cuomo's State of the State and Budget Address

Date: January 15, 2019

"The roadmap to a strong, sustainable economy starts on the Main Streets that bisect and define every community in this state"

ALBANY, Jan. 15, 2019 — NFIB, the leading small business association in New York representing over ten thousand members, reacted to Governor Andrew Cuomo’s State of the State address and his proposed budget. The following comments may be attributed to Greg Biryla, state director for NFIB in New York:

“Half of New York’s private sector workforce is employed by small business; small businesses that invest more into our economy, our neighborhoods, and our middle-class than any other sector of the economy.

“NFIB is ready to work with Governor Cuomo to make the landmark property tax cap permanent, ensure continued income tax relief extends to small businesses that drive the middle-class, and bring additional accountability and discipline to government spending. These actions proposed by the Governor are essential to making New York State more affordable and ensuring small businesses can compete, grow and hire in a modern economy.

“All of New York’s taxpayers, including small businesses, continue to toil beneath one the heaviest tax burdens and most difficult regulatory climates in the nation. NFIB and our members remain concerned that some proposed employer mandates contained in the Governor’s address appear to embrace a flawed, one-size-fits-all regulatory model that severely limits the autonomy and flexibility small businesses need to attract talent and remain competitive.

“The roadmap to a strong, sustainable economy starts on the Main Streets that bisect and define every community in this state from the New York Harbor to Lake Erie. We look forward to partnering with the Governor and every member of the Legislature in the coming weeks to support the small business owners that risk it all to create opportunity for themselves, their communities, and their state.”
