Lansing Business Owner Elected Chair of NFIB Leadership Council

NFIB has a new Chairman of the Michigan Leadership Council. Jon Sorber, Executive Vice President of Two Men and a Truck in Lansing will serve a two-year term on the Council.

Jon Sorber is one of the original “two men” of Two Men and A Truck. Older brother Brig Sorber is his wing man. The two, with their 1966 pickup truck, started their small business in the early 1980’s to make some extra spending money. They placed an ad in a local shopping that went like this: “Men at Work Movers … Two Men and a Truck.”

The ad also featured a stick figure designed by their mother, Mary Ellen Sheets. Thirty plus years later, that logo is still the corporate symbol for what is now an international company with more than 380 locations, including Ireland and the United Kingdom, and 44 states in the U.S.

Sorber was named the Executive Vice President in 2007. You can find more information about the company HERE.

The NFIB Michigan Leadership Council is comprised of small business owners who council the grass roots organization on public policy, programs, and membership development. NFIB issues are determined by federal and state ballot and surveys.

Founded in 1943, the mission of NFIB is to promote and protect the right of small business to own, operate, and grow their business. NFIB in Michigan has almost 10,000 small business members and 300,000 members nationwide.

“We are excited to elect Jon to the Leadership Council” said Charlie Owens, Michigan State Director for NFIB. “All of our small business members will benefit from his leadership and insight as we tackle the difficult issues facing small business in Michigan.”
