Is Single-Payer Healthcare Coming to Washington?

Date: March 06, 2019

A work group composed of business owners, doctors, and health agencies have until Nov. 15, 2020 to develop state recommendation.

On Feb. 25, Washington lawmakers kicked off a discussion around single payer healthcare at state level.

According to the Washington Times, SB 5822/HB 1877 would “convene a work group composed of consumers, large and small businesses, labor, doctors, hospitals, health insurance bureaucrats, representatives from state health agencies and finance agencies, and Democratic and Republican legislators from the state house and senate.”

The group will work together to develop recommendations such as how transition the state toward a single payer system, comparing financing mechanisms, and considering the option of partnering with other states to create a regional single-payer system by November 15, 2020.

NFIB opposes the bill.
