Gov. Rauner Sets Out to Cut Red Tape in Illinois

Small business owners cite
unreasonable government regulations as their second biggest concern, according
to NFIB’s 2016 Problems and Priorities survey. So
for Illinois small businesses, there was actually a piece of good news
recently: Gov. Bruce Rauner has launched an effort to rein in the
regulatory burden and associated expenses for businesses.

The first step was the creation
of www.Illinois.gov/cut,
which will be dedicated to cutting fees and obstacles to starting and running a
business in the Prairie State. Gov. Rauner has asked that the public share
which regulations are the most burdensome in order to help the state get an
idea of the full scope of the problem and prioritize solutions.

Additionally, Executive Order
16-13, signed by Gov. Rauner on Oct. 17, 2016, creates the Illinois
Competitiveness Council, which is comprised of state agency directors and
Illinois owners. This council has been directed to find a way to save
Illinoisans more than $250 million in direct license fee costs as well as to
get rid of 4 million pages in paperwork. The goal, according to Gov. Rauner, is
a more business-friendly Illinois, while still protecting consumers.

 Under this executive order, Gov.
Rauner has also instructed all state agencies to do a comprehensive review of
existing regulations and policies to determine those that are outdated,
redundant, confusing, or overly burdensome on the economy.

 Gov. Rauner stressed that public
participation is vital to the process, so be sure to weigh in with the red tape
that you think should be cut. Visit www.Illinois.gov/cut to learn more about the
goals of this initiative and click on “Report Red Tape” to share your input.
