The Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) is making some important upgrades, and small businesses across the state can benefit from them.
Starting Sept. 11, 2017, the IDES is partnering with the Illinois Department of Revenue (IDOR) to allow Illinois employers to use MyTax Illinois to pay their unemployment insurance taxes. MyTax Illinois is the secure website portal maintained by IDOR and used by employers to electronically file and pay other taxes and fees. By combining these functions into a one-stop shop, employers will have an easier, streamlined experience.
Plus, MyTax Illinois will allow you to:
- Register a new business with both IDOR and IDES at one spot at one time, instead of separately
- View your tax correspondence and account balance online
- Receive fast confirmation that reports and payments have been received and process, instead of waiting for confirmation via mail
IDES also plans to add more to MyTax Illinois, including refund requests, electronic tax appeal submissions, penalty/interest waiver requests, deferred payment plan setup, power of attorney relationship submissions, zero quarterly wage reporting, and rate viewing.
Finding Qualified Workers
Another new service offered by the IDES is IllinoisJobLink. Finding qualified workers continues to be a top challenge for small business owners, and this website helps connect job seekers with employers. Creating an account is fast, easy, and free, and employers can post jobs and review candidate resumes directly on the site. Plus, IDES offers job-matching programs and workshops, some dedicated to veterans, which may be an additional source of assistance for small business hiring searches.
