Consistent Employment Regulations Act Passed by Texas Senate

Date: March 06, 2019

Gov. Greg Abbott has expressed support for SB 15.

Following two hours of testimony and a 5-1 vote, the Texas Senate State Affairs Committee voted to pass SB 15, reports the Waco Tribune-Herald.

The amended bill prevents individual cities and counties from adopting local ordinances related to employment leave, paid days off for holidays and sick days. If passed, the bill would void mandates, like those in Austin and San Antonio.

During NFIB’s Small Business Day at the Capitol, Texas Governor Greg Abbott demonstrated his support for small business owners by announcing the filing of the Consistent Employment Regulations Act.

“The court affirmed our position that when cities overplay their regulatory hand by creating local ordinances that interfere with employers’ ability to run their businesses, they cause imminent and irreparable harm to those businesses,” NFIB’s Texas State Director Annie Spilman said following Small Business Day. “Our members are asking their legislators to pass the Consistent Employment Regulations Act so this issue will be settled once and for all.”
