NFIB State Director Ben Homeyer released the following statement in response to Gov. Henry McMaster’s recommendations to the General Assembly on how Phase II of CARES Act funds should be divided:
“Our members were relieved to see that Governor McMaster supports $45 million in grants to help small businesses and nonprofits that didn’t receive federal Paycheck Protection Program loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration.
“This pandemic has taken a tremendous toll on South Carolina’s economy, especially its small businesses. We’re hopeful the General Assembly will approve the grants and allocate another $450 million to replenish the state’s Unemployment Trust Fund to help people who lose their jobs because of the slowdown of the economy and to avoid a tax increase on employers down the road.”
