NFIB Statement in Response to Gov. Abbott's Latest Details on Reopening

Date: May 05, 2020

NFIB State Director Annie Spilman released the following statement today in response to Governor Abbott’s plan to allow more businesses to begin opening with restrictions beginning May 8:

“The need to temporarily close businesses to prevent the spread of the deadly COVID-19 virus is still taking a toll on Texas job creators. Governor Abbott’s announcement today that a growing number of businesses can begin to reopen is going to help, but many of our small business members are concerned they won’t make it unless they open soon. We will continue working with the governor’s Strike Force to Open Texas to find a solution that allows more businesses to begin to reopen while keeping customers and employees safe.”

NFIB released a national survey today that found more small businesses are finally getting financial assistance but that owners remain concerned over increased liability, finding adequate supplies of hand sanitizer and disinfectant, and getting customers back. Click here to read the survey.
