Date: May 15, 2020

Gov. Walz Reopens Retail Stores

Governor Walz finally issued the executive order everyone had been waiting for May 14th and reopened retail stores. Specifically, executive order 20-56 states:

“All retail stores, malls and other businesses that sell, rent, maintain and repair goods can reopen for in-person sales as long as they”, the order goes on to list re-opening criteria, including adopting and implementing a COVID-19 preparedness plan and allowing no more than 50% of the establishment’s occupant capacity inside. The plan does not need to be submitted to state officials but can be requested at any time. The guidance for the order is here.

NFIB and was one of several organizations that urged Governor Walz to take this much needed action. The governor’s administration said yesterday they are developing plans to at least partially reopen the remaining closed businesses including restaurants, bars and gyms on June 1st which would be a positive step in the right direction.
