STUDY PROVES CONNECTICUT IS FAILING SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS

HARTFORD (September 3, 2015): The National Federation of
Independent Business (NFIB) certainly wasn’t surprised to see yesterday’s
Thumbtack survey results where Connecticut small business owners unfortunately
gave their state a resounding “F.”

“This study is a clear indication that if state governments
provide an economic environment that is conducive to growth and development,
small businesses have the opportunity to succeed and in turn, so do those that
they employ,” according to NFIB Connecticut State Director, Andrew Markowski.
“Connecticut lawmakers failed to meet any criteria that would have resulted in
a passing grade for the state. The economic uncertainty here has never been
higher.”

Thumbtack released its fourth annual survey of small
business owners aimed at providing new insight into state and local business
environments across the nation yesterday. It was the first such evaluation
since Connecticut’s tumultuous budget session earlier this year that resulted
in small businesses getting hit with higher taxes and many questioning whether
or not they will be able to remain in the state.

“Unfortunately, while some state lawmakers were proposing
legislation that would have improved job growth and strengthened confidence in
Connecticut’s economy, in the end their solutions to our economic crisis fell
on deaf ears. The increase on taxes and burdensome regulations that we have
been left with will no doubt only make things worse for small employers in the
state,” stated Markowski.  “Hopefully, there is no place to go but up
from here, so small business owners in the state urge lawmakers and others to
focus on real, long term solutions to improve both the reputation and the
reality of our business environment,” Markowski concluded.
