CONNECTICUT LAWMAKERS WEAKENING WORK FORCE WITH BAD BUDGET PROPOSAL

HARTFORD (May 14, 2015): Today, the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), the state’s leading small business organization, is once again calling into question the legislature’s misguided proposal to increase taxes and stifle economic progress in the state of Connecticut.

 

“Small businesses have been through a lot of bad policy changes in this state and at some point you begin to think that nothing will surprise you but this revenue package from the Finance Committee is mind blowing.” Said Andrew Markowski, State Director of NFIB Connecticut. “Taxing services that have previously remain untouched will do nothing more than continue to lead to good, hardworking entrepreneurs being driven out of Connecticut.”

 

The budget proposal released recently by the legislature’s Finance committee would increase taxes on things like engineering and design services from zero to 5.85%.  Building inspections services are impacted as well, which will drive up the costs associated with construction projects and ultimately harm the long suffering tax payers in Connecticut.

 

“Engineers are doing their best to remain operational in a state with a corporate business tax rate that is one of the worst in the country and the policy makers in Hartford just keep exacerbating the problem. On behalf of small business owners throughout the state that are fed up, I implore both Democrats and Republicans to work together and develop a budget that encourages investment in Connecticut,” Concluded Markowski.
