NFIB Releases Updated Good, Bad, & Ugly Bill List
NFIB California updates list of priority bills impacting small business in the 2017-18 session

SACRAMENTO, Calif., March 28, 2018 –
With the Legislature in full-swing of the second half of the 2017-18 legislative session, NFIB California released an updated Good, Bad, & Ugly bill list which identifies new and developing policy issues in the State Capitol impacting small business. Bills included in this list represent those which will have the greatest impact, either negative or positive, on the 3.8 million small businesses across California.

“Since the Legislature reconvened in January, legislators wasted no introducing more than 2,000 new bills, hundreds of which would have a significant impact on our small business owners,” commented NFIB California State Director John Kabateck. “While we know that small business job creators are the engine of the California economy, we also know small businesses face very different challenges than big businesses on a daily basis, and our Good, Bad, & Ugly bill list serves as the pulse on these unique issues affecting small business owners in California.

“Our 22,000 small business members have great concern that this legislature may pass additional taxes, labor mandates, and regulations, this year, which would negatively impact their ability to own, operate, and grow their business. However, we also have optimism that there will be several opportunities for bipartisan collaboration in the Capitol to tackle some of the most important issues for our members in the areas of legal, regulatory, and tax reform. We will regularly update this bill list as we continue to advocate on behalf of our members on these critical small business issues,” added Kabateck.

Currently, the list includes 30 bills total (14 good; 10 bad; and 6 ugly). This list reflects proposals from the 2017-2018 legislative session, and as new bills are introduced or morphed into substantively new bills, this list will be updated.
