State ranks 8th in country. Here are 6 reasons why.
Study Praises Arizona’s Small Biz Environment
Arizona ranked 8th in the country for best environment for small business and entrepreneurship in a new study from the Small Business and Entrepreneurship Council.
The Small Business Policy Index 2016 looked at 50 measures related to taxes, regulations, government spending and debt issues and more. Arizona fared particularly well in these 6 categories:
1. Number of state and local government workers;
2. Government spending and unemployment taxes.
3. Arizona is a right to work state;
4. Arizona does not impose an alternative minimum tax;
5. Arizona does not impose a death tax; and
6. Arizona does not mandate paid family leave.
“Most business owners understand the array of costs and burdens imposed by government,” writes the study’s author, economist Raymond J. Keating. “Taxes and regulations, for example, drain enterprises of vital resources, distort decision-making, and redirect resources and energies away from maintaining, improving and/or expanding a business.”
Arizona’s rank in the survey has been steadily rising: Last year the state came in 11th, and the year before it was 12th.
