NFIB President Brad Close Invites Small Business Owners to Speak Out in NFIB’s “Small Business Survival” Campaign

NFIB President Brad Close

NFIB has been proud to serve our members through the pandemic, and to get you the information you needed while holding our lawmakers’ feet to the fire to help small businesses weather the storm. So many small businesses across our nation struggled to keep their doors open, to help their employees and their communities, and now they are ready to kickstart the small business growth engine.

But just when small business is ready to grow and hire, along comes Washington. Under the guise of making the rich and large corporations pay their fair share, the administration and congress are poised to pass massive tax increases and new mandates and regulations on your business.

Small businesses and their employees bore the brunt of the pandemic and government shutdowns, but to Washington, its as if the pandemic never occurred. They plan to spend trillions of taxpayer dollars, and pay for it with tax hikes that will directly hit your business.

The administration’s multi-trillion-dollar spending proposals would increase taxes and mandates for millions of America’s small businesses and farmers. For example:

  • Creation of a second death tax that will target small businesses and farmers that are exempted from the current death tax.
  • An increase in the top marginal tax rates for individuals, which will ensnare more small businesses organized as pass-through entities – businesses like LLCs, S-Corps, Partnerships and Sole Proprietorships, all of whom file their businesses taxes on their individual tax returns.
  • A 33% tax increase on the approximately 1 million small businesses that are organized as C-Corps, who would see their tax rate increase from 20% to 28% under the administration’s plan.

That’s why we launched the Small Business Survival campaign last month: to protect NFIB members by opposing new tax increases and regulations that would harm Main Street’s fragile economic recovery. The Small Business Survival campaign is a coordinated advocacy effort including advertising, media, research, lobbying, and grassroots involvement from members like you – to make clear to Congress the damage that tax increases and new mandates would do to jobs and economic growth.

You can read more about the Small Business Survival campaign in a recent FOX Business article about the campaign’s launch and more information is available at NFIB.com/SmallBizSurvival.

NFIB is holding members of Congress accountable if they support tax hikes and new mandates, but we need your voice to be heard. Members of Congress must hear directly from small business owners. Please take the time to tell your stories now in our survey about the administration’s proposed tax hikes, and join us for the NFIB 2021 Virtual Fly-In, June 22-23 at NFIBflyin.com. The Fly-In is our annual small business advocacy event in Washington, happening virtually this year.

We lead the fight in Washington, and your voice is needed now more than ever. Small businesses have strength in numbers that is unmatched, but it is crucial that more small businesses lend their voices to the fight against tax increases and new mandates and regulations.

Thank you for your activism and for your support of NFIB.

Sincerely,

Brad Close

NFIB President
