Indiana's New Small Business Order

Date: November 14, 2016 Last Edit: November 17, 2016

When the curtain came down on Election 2016, NFIB Indiana’s candidates won in 97 percent of the state legislative races we endorsed in. But wait—there's more.

Certainly you felt it.  The seismic rumblings of Election Day 2016.

You felt it, didn’t you?  I know I did.

I’ve been a political junkie for much of my adult life and I sure didn’t see the norm-shattering tsunami that carried Donald Trump and many Hoosier candidates into office.  I’ve always had a pretty good political gut…. or at least I thought I did.  In the past, my gut could often predict who would be the winner in a particular race.  Well, this time my gut let me down.  Yes, like so many others, I followed the polls.  And, like so many others, I was fooled by the polling results.

So how did Small Business in Indiana do in this Election for the Ages?

Well, as you may know, NFIB members decide whether or not we endorse and who we might endorse in a particular race. And Hoosier small business owners were nearly perfect in their endorsements.  When the curtain came down on Election 2016, NFIB Indiana’s candidates won in 97% of the state legislative races we endorsed in.  Additionally, the candidate endorsed by NFIB won the Governor’s office and the US Senate, and all the endorsed Congressional candidates won their races.

Yes.  A pretty big haul for small business in Indiana.

Congratulations to NFIB member Eric Holcomb who is now the Governor-Elect of the great Hoosier state. And congratulations to Rep. Todd Young for his yuuuge come-from-behind victory in the US Senate.

Other NFIB endorsed candidates who will be joining or returning to DC:

Congressional District  #2 – Jackie Walorski

Congressional District # 3 – Jim Banks  (won open seat of Marlin Stutzman)

Congressional District #4 – Todd Rokita

Congressional District #5 – Susan Brooks

Congressional District #6 – Luke Messer

Congressional District # 8- Larry Bucshon

Congressional District #9- Trey Hollingsworth (won the open seat of Todd Young who has now been elected to the Senate)

Yes, 2016 is an election year that will go down in the record books.  (Probably the understatement of the century.)  With so many pro-small-business candidates elected this year, I, for one, can’t wait to see what will happen.  Tax reform?  Health Care Reform?  Regulatory Reform?  It’s all on the table.

The status quo is definitely on shaky ground…..

Can you feel it?
