An Update From Your NFIB/OH Executive Director and Vice President, Roger Geiger

Date: August 19, 2015

While 2015 is considered an “off year” for elections there are a number of issues that will likely appear before the voters on November 3, 2015. There are several that will be of interest to the Ohio small-business community. NFIB/Ohio is in the process of looking to our membership to form positions on these during the upcoming months.

We asked the question in June” Should NFIB/Ohio support House Joint Resolution 4 (HJR 4), a constitutional amendment that would ask the voters of the State of Ohio to prohibit the creation of monopolies through the use of citizen-initiated constitutional amendments?

As always, background information as well as proponent and opponent arguments were offered. This will likely appear as issue 2 on the statewide ballot in November.

We are in the process of collecting votes on two special ballots from the NFIB/Ohio membership on efforts to reform the redistricting process in Ohio as well as the potential legalization of marijuana.  If you haven’t voted, please vote your special ballots to help NFIB/Ohio formulate a position on these ballot issues.

As always we will once again propose a question, provide background, as well as give proponent and opponent arguments on the issues as they relate to the business community in Ohio. Members receive one vote and will have about one week to cast it and make their opinion heard.

This is an important part of your membership with NFIB. The ballot process is one of the unique aspects that sets NFIB apart from other associations. It is critical we hear from the membership on issues such as these if we are to take a position on either side.
