An Update from Your NFIB/New Jersey State Director

Date: July 15, 2015

Dear Member,

We have successfully navigated another budget season in New Jersey without any business and economy stunting tax increases. Governor Chris Christie vetoed two tax increases on business and $1.6 billion in line item veto vetoes from the budget sent to him by the legislature.

We have had success along the way in defeating bills that would have had a negative impact on our members, such as a proposal that would have increased the New Jersey gross income tax from 8.97 to 10.75% on all income over $1 million. A vote on mandated paid leave was canceled after aggressive action by NFIB and other business groups. Legislation that would increase worker’s compensation costs and a measure to prohibit the use of credit reports when making new hires was also defeated.

NFIB as the voice of small business in New Jersey exercised our voice in testimony during committee hearings, letters and calls to the legislators, key vote alerts, media coverage and work with a strong business coalition.

Thank you for your membership that makes our important work possible. I thank you for your activism on key issues before the legislature. Together we can make New Jersey a business friendly state.

Thank you,
Laurie Ehlbeck
New Jersey state director
