An Update From Your Alabama State Director

Date: July 15, 2015

Rosemary Elebash discusses what legislators are focused on now that the 2015 legislative has concluded.

Dear NFIB/Alabama Members,

With the conclusion of the 2015 Regular Legislative Session, legislators are focused on returning to Montgomery for a Special Session that is expected to be called in late August. The House of Representatives created interim committees to begin looking at agency budgets, employee head count and consolidation of agencies to reduce expenditures. The budget shortfall is estimated at $200 million for the budget year beginning Oct. 1. Some of the revenue proposals could include increases in car tags, removal of exemptions, repealing certain tax deductions, changes to withholding exemptions and moving use tax collections from the Education Budget to the General Fund Budget.
