GET INVOLVED: Tell Lawmakers to STOP the Illinois Employee Security Act

Date: April 14, 2021

Senate Bill 2332, the so-called Illinois Employee Security Act, would toss out decades of employment standards and make it harder for employers to discipline and discharge bad workers.

If passed, the bill would:

  • Eliminate “at-will” employment.
  • Limit an employer’s ability to discharge an employee for “just cause.”
  • Prohibit the elimination of staff redundancy created by a merger or merger.
  • Severely restrict “electronic monitoring” of a workplace.
  • Restrict an employer from discharging an employee for off-duty misconduct.
  • Place strict new requirements the progressive discipline process.
  • Mandate employers provide severance pay for all employees, including time worked for previous employers.
  • Define day- and temporary-labor services and their third-party clients as co-employers of all workers.
  • Provide for extensive administrative and civil monetary remedies.
